At first glance, the two worlds of Johann Sebastian Bach
(1685-1750) and Conlon Nancarrow (b. 1912) seem impossibly distant: an
eighteenth century court musician, who live all his life in Northern Europe
and dedicated his work to God and the Church, is far removed from the life
of a contemporary composer from Arkansas, who, after fighting for the Communists
in the Spanish Civil War, has lived for the past fifty years in Mexico
City.
"…This latest, a double Cd, is among her finest recorded
achievements to date. MacGregor’s control
and clarity throughout is phenomenal: the cool control and digital mastery
which she preserves in a firestorm of counterpoint give her performance
an intellectual integrity that few can match. Sensational double disc."
